The Research Network DEL
Created in 2002 by Gérard Loiseau and Stéphanie Wojcik, the research network entitled « Electronic Democracy » (DEL) is composed of researchers who, whatever their status or their field of research, devote their work, either in full or part to the study of the various aspects of e-democracy. In a general sense, it includes phenomena relating, for example, to e-participation, e-voting, e-debates or the use of the Internet by politicians, political parties or social movements, at local, national, regional or international level. The DEL network currently has 81 members who come from various countries (the majority come from France but others are from Canada, Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, Swiss, United Kingdom,…) (at the end of 2007).
DEL organizes conferences and scientific seminars, generally twice a year, in order to publicise and, above all, to discuss the work of its members. The network can also act as a partner to the scientific events organized by its members.
The exchange of information is another of DEL’s activities. The mailing list, maintained by G. Loiseau and supplied with information by the members themselves, allows one to keep informed as regards calls for papers, announcements of scientific events, publications, and so on. The website, mostly in French but which also contains information in English, collects these pieces of information and also has an online library including over 1000 papers (available exclusively for the members, only the references of the papers are available to the general public).
The network DEL is bound to the CERTOP, a laboratory of the National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS), in France, and to the Research Group ICT and Society which also belongs to the CNRS. DEL is managed by Gérard Loiseau (scientific correspondent), Thierry Vedel and Stéphanie Wojcik (international relations and website).
